1st Malaysia Homestay Tourism Awards (MHTA)
Homestay is the other thriving side of tourism that offers local family accommodations for visitors interested in authentic family traditions and culture. Living with locals offers an opportunity to experience the realities of daily life as a family member, in addition to making a positive impact on tourism and societal attitudes, such as raising awareness of environmental protection, the importance of preserving cultural and historical heritage, creating cultural exchange among ethnic groups, regional authorities and visitors; educating local residents in far-flung areas about proper behavior within the community.
Tourism sector has the second highest contribution to Malaysia’s economy. One of its highlights is the Homestay Tourism which existed all over the country. The Malaysian Government saw its promising potential as a platform to facilitate growth in the local economy and improve the quality of life of Malaysia’s rural population. Investing with laser focus and outstanding efforts to promote rural tourism, these had resulted its on rise demand and increase tourist visits. Moreover, the structure of the Homestay Programme allows villagers to stay in their homes rather than seek their fortune in cities.
Last 2015, Malaysia together with Community Homestay Global Network inaugurated the 1st WORLD Homestay Organisation Summit for tourism to converge various community based and homestay providers worldwide to meet and know one another better, learn from each other, work together, share motivations, best practices, challenges and tailor-fit the best takeaways and learning’s that they’ve acquired from all the speakers that are readily implemented in their respective areas.
